Hydromax Limited sets another agenda in Hydro power production - By the Giants Magazine Team, July 2009.

Uganda government is promoting small electricity projects in the country in a bid to supplement the national grid which is constrained by low generation capacity. These small hydro power projects are part of the general renewable energy framework aiming at strengthening the entire electricity sector in the country.

According to Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), more than 50 mini hydro power sites with a combined potential of 210 MW have so far been identified through various studies in Uganda. Currently small hydro accounts for only 18 MW of electricity generation capacity.

Hydromax Limited a renewable energy company in Uganda is among other companies that have already responded to the government's call of promoting small electricity projects in the country. They are already working on Buseruka Hydropower Project in Hoima district.

Buseruka Hydropower Project is being managed by TCE Consulting Engineering Limited. TCE is one of the India's leading premier engineering consultancy firms, offering comprehensive multi disciplinary solutions for a wide range of projects. At Buseruka Hydro power Project, the source of the water is River Wambabya. Work at the site is going on 24 hours as workers are engaged in day and night shifts. Workers are provided with healthy and safe working atmosphere so as to hit the deadline. The services include medical facilities, training courses, safety measure, transport and food supply among others.

Once the project is completed, power will be transmitted to the national grid in Hoima which will increase the power supply in the area that is full of oil fields waiting for oil production. People in Buseruka and Hoima district in general are all smiles with such a huge project in the area. Once inaccessible area is now accessible as Dott services, Civil Contractors of this project improved the road network in the area and the community is already benefiting from the multi million projects.

Apart from the good road network, where transporting goods and services are easy,a total of 200 workers are being employed by the Buseruka Hydro power Project. This has improved the quality of the workers and their families in the area.
